This report is a research project on the life and works of a famous artist. You will gather information about this artist from various sources and present this information on a tri-fold display board.

Step #1: Pick an Artist and Learn about them

 

Would you like to learn more about some famous artists? This is a great place to start. Take a look at the ones we wrote about. Look for your favorite and learn about new ones! There is a lot of information from when they were born to when they died, and important facts about their lives and artwork.

Alphabetic Listing of Artists with biographies (1000+)

 

Artists used many styles in their paintings and drawings. Here are some of the more common styles of art. Learn about each style and how to identify it. Which style did the artist you picked use?

 

 

 

Project Requirements

 

                  1. Project Title-Displayed at the top of the board in the center panel. Please use  Neat Creative Lettering that includes the artist's name, with your name written below it.

 

 

                   2. Timeline: Design a timeline of your artist's life that includes at least 15 events. Be sure to include his birthdate, early life, marriage, children ( If any), education, awards, when his major works were created, artistic period he/she lived in, what influenced the artist, how the art reflected the time he/she lived in, projects this artist did with other artists. (You can you use the graphic organizer in the packet your teacher handed out to take notes on). A final draft of this should be neatly written or typed and be pasted on the top left hand panel .

 

You may want to use one of the on-line timeline makers. You can type in your information and the timeline will be creazted for you. This can then be printed out to place on your panel.

 

IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF TIME LINE YOU WOULD LIKE

Time Lines can run horizontal or vertical. Choose the type of card you would like to make below.

      3. Biography-use the timeline information to write a biography about the artist. You should include the following facts:

      Remember to use paragraphs and complete sentences. Please type this if at all possible or write VERY NEATLY.

 

  • Early Life-1 paragraph
  • Major events in their  private life- 1 paragraph
  • Major Events in the artists life- 2 paragraphs

       4. Reproduction of the Artist's Work: Choose one of the Artist's major works and reproduce it so it looks as much like the original as possible. If the artist was a painter, you can either draw or paint your picture.

 

        5. Designing your own Work: Many artists are influenced by other artists. Study the style of your artist and create a new picture keeping the style of the artist in mind

 

        6. Letter to the Artist-Write a letter to the artist telling what you like and dislike about their style. . Think about the artist's color choices, subject matter, composition, and use of light, shape, texture, and shading.

  • 2 paragraphs long-one on the elements you liked and the other on the elements you disliked

      7. Response to the Art Work Show 10 people of differing ages a color copy of the picture you choose to reproduce.

  •   Ask each person to describe the picture and summarize their comments into a complete sentence. (1 sentence per person)
  •   Type these responses and label the,"A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"
  •    Place this next to the letter you wrote the artist
    8. Bibliography On an index card write a bibliography of the five reference books and websites you used.
         List the sources in ABC order by the Authors last name
         Place the bibliography on the bottom of the center panel.
