 What is Web 2.0?

An engaged interactive internet

Google Gadget error

A term used to talk about the interactive nature of the Internet and how applications can be transfered from desktop applications and used in the Broswer format. Sometimes referred to as Web Based applications. A few good examples might be: UTube, Flicker. Web 2.0 applications see users as participants that contribute to the evolution of the Web and Web services. The following terms are used when talking about Web 2.0

RIA refers to rich internet applications, or programs that run within a browser such as Firefox and Internet Explorer.

SOA- Service Oriented Architecture

A Mashup is a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool; a typical example is the use of cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real-estate data from Craigslist, thereby creating a new and distinct web service that was not originally envisaged by either source.

Social Networking- the end user( the person using the computer)m not only interacts using the applications but also contributes to it. Examples such as wiki's, blogs, podcasts, and classroom 2.0 engage the users in the on-going process.

Tag based delivered media-by applying tags or headings to pages makes  it is easier to sort .

Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs, competing with Google, Yahoo and IceRocket.

Basically, what "Ajax" means is "Javascript now works." And that in turn means that web-based applications can now be made to work much more like desktop ones.

Innovation and open source products that have included more collaboration on the web, Examples include; Wiki's, Blogs, delicious, Flicker, Dig, Technorati

Webbased Applications- web-based applications are a big component of Web 2.0. Things you used to have to put in a cd to accomplish you can now do right inside the internet browser.

.Democracy  Another  big element of Web 2.0 is democracy. We now have several examples to prove that amateurs can surpass professionals, when they have the right kind of system to channel their efforts.- This has results in lots of very cool open source software we can all use, test and refine for free. We are now collaborating more than ever.

Respect- actually valuing users. Not amking the pages to heavy to load, allowing services to be tested for free, and not making using give out personal infor just to try a product.
